Lymph Drainage/Post Surgery Care

Do you have a Lymphatic Problem?

Recent surgery, breast cancer, radiotherapy, scar tissue, lymph node removal, immobilisation and stress can all affect the flow of lymph fluid in the body.  The onset of swollen arms, swollen feet or legs, pain, pins and needles in the extremities, hard fibrotic tissue or heaviness in the arm may indicate an impairment in the lymph system. It is important to seek help for your lymph problem immediately to help prevent lymphoedema and to ease your symptoms.

if you have lymphoedema are you having lymph drainage massage or therapy from a qualified professional? Is your condition improving or becoming worse?

Our treatments will reduce congestion in the extracellular matrix of the body, which will improve the flow of lymph fluid. Lymphatic Therapy treatments and lymph drainage will break down fibrotic tissue, reduce pain and swelling, soften hard tissue and scars, detoxify the body and increase energy levels and well-being.

Electro Lymphatic Therapy  (8-10 times more powerful than Manual Lymph Drainage)

The ultimate treatment to strengthen and rebuild the immune system, reduce inflammation and pain. Our most popular lymphatic treatment uses ionic energy to penetrate deep into the tissues of the body to break up congestion and detox at the cellular level. This stimulates the lymph system to move out toxins and fluid while restructuring the immune system to function at its optimum. Beneficial for many types of disease and illness, cancer, lymphoedema, lymes, disease prevention, cellulite and for general well-being and health maintenance.

What is Electro-Lymphatic Therapy
Electro Lymphatic Therapy uses the power of energy to clear blockages and narrowing in the lymph system and improve lymph circulation. It supplies plasma rich protein to the blood and helps rid the body of inflammation. It is a gentle, light touch, non-invasive technique that combines vibrational, light and electrical waves to stimulate the flow of lymph fluid by causing the dissociation of proteins that have become trapped in the interstitium. When trapped proteins (not to be confused with nutrient proteins) release their bond, the stagnate lymph is liberated and will flow out into its normal filtration and re-absorption channels. When implementing this therapy, clients will have improved absorption of nutriceuticals and medications which will decrease the dosages needed.

The lymphatic flow can stagnate for many reasons, such as swelling, chronic inflammation, lack of physical activity, stress, fatigue, emotional shock, age, and also poorly fitted under garments worn for an excessive amount of time. When lymphatic circulation slows down, the regeneration of cells becomes less effective. This condition allows toxins and proteins to accumulate around the cells which decreases cellular oxygenation and diminishes tissue regeneration.

Since lymphatic organs plays an important role in the immune system, the proper flow of the lymphatic fluid can positively impact many conditions faced by clients.

Detoxing and Strengthening the Immune System
is necessary to heal friom disease and illness. The lymph system is you immune system. It is a vital circulatory system with an extensive network of vessels throughout the body. It is your primary defence against bacteria, fungus and viruses and so much more.

The benefits of Electro Lymphatic Therapy

  • Full body detoxification
  • Improves circulation of macrophages, lymphocytes and natural killer cells
  • Improves red blood cell mobility
  • Reduces pain and inflammation
  • Relieves lymphoedema issues
  • Relieves lymph accumulation in breast and prostrate
  • Ease the symptoms of chemotherapy and radiation
  • Supports all health maintenance protocols
  • Assists with comprehensive weight loss

*Ten session are recommended for a typical detox and health maintenance.

Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) is one of the most gentlest forms of massage, but one of the most powerful.
The rhythmical, pumping technique  gently stretches the skin to stimulate the lymphatic system to remove excess fluid and waste products from the connective tissue. Treatment can soften hard fibrotic tissue and scars, reduce fluid in tissues , improve range of motion of limbs, increase blood and lymph flow, boost the immune system and help balance the nervous system.  MLD maximizes the body’s ability to resist stress and disease. Many medical professionals are recognising the benefits of MLD for their patients as a valuable treatment not only in preparation for surgery and post-surgical healing, but also in the final results of the procedure.

What moves the lymph?

  • Movement of the skeletal muscles
  • Pulsation of the arteries
  • Deep breathing
  • Peristaltic movement of the abdomen
  • Lymph Drainage

Additional Benefits of Lymph Drainage

  • Detoxification of body tissues helps reverse build-up of toxins secondary to effects of medication
  • Pain reduction
  • Relaxation
  • Reduction in healing time post-surgery or post-injury
  • Reduces post-surgical oedema or swelling
  • Encourages lymphatic“re-routing”
  • Stimulates fluid circulation
  • Stimulates the immune system and helps prevent post-surgical infections
  • Improves skin regeneration and wound healing and optimises the scarring process

Lymphoedema

What is Lymphoedema?

Lymphoedema is a condition caused from surgery or radiotherapy for cancer or congenital malformation of the lymphatic system. It  is a build up of protein rich fluids in parts of the body where the lymphatic drainage system has been compromised resulting in swelling. If left untreated lymphoedema will develop a proliferation of adiposities, changes in the skins thickness and appearance, and changes in blood and lymph vessel density resulting in fibrosis and serious skin conditions.

When there has been lymph node removal and radiotherapy, there is a much higher risk of developing lymphoedema. Early warning signs may be pins and needle feeling, heaviness of the limb, rings on fingers feeling tight, swelling of an arm or hand, perhaps a dull, heavy ache. Early treatments can help prevent the condition from worsening and the lymph system from becoming overloaded thus helping to prevent lymphoedema.

Lymphoedema is said to be non reversible. It cannot be cured but the condition can be improved and maintained. Many of our clients that have received regular lymph drainage massage have improved considerably to such an extent that  the lymphoedema is virtually unnoticeable. All of these clients have been compliant with self care and massage.

Preventative treatment for lymphoedema
Regular manual lymph drainage treatments, exercises and skin care routines are recommended to help in the prevention of lymphoedema.  A good quality compression garment is to be fitted and used during  high risk events such as air travel.

Being informed, understanding how the lymph system works, the warning signs and learning what you can do yourself to prevent lymphoedema will be discussed at each of your sessions at Health Changes.

Treatment Program

Completing a 10 treatment program will result in the most optimal outcome for new clients presenting with lymphoedema. Clients will learn skills to improve and manage their condition whilst receiving lymphatic therapy and also learn about the foods that cause inflammation in the body. Weekly appointments allow clients to implement what they have learnt and to notice changes in their bodies from one session to the next. There is no fast fix for lymphoedema. Discipline and compliancy of clients has proven time and time again to result in maximum results.

Post Surgery Care

Have you recently had surgery, chemotherapy or radiotherapy?

Are you suffering with fluid build up?
Or a foggy brain and low energy?

Pre Surgery Care
Lymph Drainage prior to surgery helps flush the body of toxins and wastes, increases lymph flow and blood circulation and prepares the body for surgery by stimulating the immune system. The treatment is deeply relaxing for the anxious client.

Post Surgery
With any surgery or injury there will be damage in the connective tissue. The lymph pathways may become blocked, congested or severed causing a build up of fluid in the tissues resulting in swelling. The lymph system must transport the damaged cells, toxins and inflammatory products away from the swollen area. The quicker this happens, the faster recovery will be. If Lymph Drainage begins promptly the bruise can be drained along the lymph vessels before it becomes organised and the fluid can be drained reducing inflammation and pain.

Lymph Drainage is extremely gentle and treatment may commence immediately following surgery or injury to reduce pain, swelling and bruising.

Post Cancer Clients
Anyone who has had lymph node removal or radiotherapy has a higher risk of developing lymphoedema. Early lymph drainage treatments will help reduce the risk of developing lymphoedema in moderate to high risk clients and benefit those who have all ready developed lymphoedema. Lymphatic therapy will help detoxify the body by removing toxins, excess fluid and waste from the tissues.
